Riaz Sohail, Tharparkar district, Sindh province, 1130 GMT
The entire district has been turned into a no-go area for Pakistan People's Party activists.
There were particularly strong reports of ballot boxes being stuffed by rival candidates in the sub district of Chachro.
When I went to check these reports I was fired on.
I joined at least 200 PPP supporters who had been repelled by the firing. At least five of them were injured. They said they had not been allowed to vote. … Read More….. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/7250020.stm

Tuesday, 20-February-2007
almotamar.net google - The BBC Urdu servcie reporter in Karachi, Riaz Sohail, met a few of the survivors who returned to their homes in Pakistan.
The explosion took place just over an hour and a half after the train had left Delhi. The passengers were resting.
The train got ablaze immediately and everybody started screaming. During this time the doors were closed and people were shouting for the train to stop.
The train stopped after 15 minutes when it reached the platform at Panipat. I was travelling with my husband and our three children. We were sitting near the door way and me and my husband jumped out the moment the doors of the carriage opened. My husband then went back in to get the kids. After helping two of them our, he passed out due to smoke inhalation. My son was still inside. At that point I went into the carriage myself. I couldn't see anything, so I shouted his name until I heard his voice. That's how I managed to get him out. I saw three Sikhs trying to help passengers, but they got caught in the blaze and died. I am still in shock and unable to believe what happened. It all seems like a nightmare.
It's like I have been granted a new life, that's how I feel, I am back in my homeland, what could be better than that. I was in the carriage in front of the two that caught fire. The train took a while to stop. The doors of one carriage did not open and everybody inside was killed. The flames were huge and everybody was in shock.
RUKHSANA KHATOONI travel every year to meet my Indian husband.
He was refused a visa to come to Pakistan and I have to visit him in India with our children. I was lucky not to be in the affected carriage. When the fire started I thought it was the last journey I would ever make. The explosion took place soon after the train left Delhi. At that point, someone pulled the emergency cord and the train stopped a while later.

BBC's Riaz Sohail in Karachi says at least 200 lawyers broke into the empty assembly building in the southern city of Karachi in a symbolic protest.
They were protesting against remarks by Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Arbab Rahim who backed President Musharraf's decision to remove Mr Chaudhry from his post. Mr Rahim had said that all provinces had filed complaints against the chief justice "for interfering in affairs of the government". Our correspondent says that this was in reference to court orders to police and local administration officials regarding cases of official negligence or abuse of power.
The lawyers chanted slogans against the federal and provincial governments, and said that Mr Rahim's remarks amounted to contempt of court. In related incidents in Karachi, two lawyers had their local bar membership suspended after they took part in a demonstration in favour of the presidential order. Another lawyer was beaten up by colleagues for attempting to enter the city courts.

Pakistan - A Perpetual Abu Gharaib?
Here is an extract from this month’s Herald magazine (‘Raw Deal’ by Riaz Sohail, page 33)
"JSMM [Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz] Vice Chairman Samiullah Kalhoro [was] picked up by plain clothesmen from a Sindh University workshop in Jamshoro where Kolhoro worked as a technician.
Kalhoro was severely tortured during his incommunicado detention and his body was irreparably damaged when his captors subjected him to cheera, a form of torture in which the legs of a subject are spread so wide that the ligaments in the groin begin to tear. He managed to escape from police custody in Hala on February 13 and was able to reach Karachi where he addressed a press conference. Soon, however, he had to be admitted to the Agha Khan University Hospital where he died on 5 March.…Apart from the devastating effects of cheera Kalhoro also had naswar mixed with hot water pumped up his nose and was given a petrol enema. In a letter he posted from an unknown location after having escaped from Hala police, Kalhoro told his family about his condition. ‘Both my kidneys are damaged…Three of my teeth are broken [and] my eyesight has gone’.
He said that his interrogators wanted him to testify that JSMM chairman Shafi Burfat and general secretary Asghar Ali were RAW [i.e. Indian] agents."
